Anyone who has seen the Eddie Murphy comedy Coming to America knows that the restaurant McDowell’s, which is totally not a ripoff of McDonald’s at all, plays a key part in the movie. Now the restaurant is real (kinda). Several people have reviewed a spoofed location in New York in the spirit of honoring the fictional restaurant.
As you may be aware of Mcdowell’s is the place Akeem works at when he comes to America from Africa while concealing his identity as a prince. This is the place where Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall from the fake African nation of Zamunda get jobs at in the film.
As Mr Mcdowell explains in the movie "Me and the McDonald's people, we have this little misunderstanding. See they're McDonald's. I'm McDowell's. They got the golden arches. Mine is the golden arcs," the restaurant's owner Cleo McDowell exclaims. We will show you a few of these reviews below.
Coming to America 2 is releasing on Amazon Prime March 5th.
