![]() A chartered flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne carrying 24 players has produced two people who have tested positive for the coronavirus. In addition to this, another passenger on a flight from Abu Dhabi with 23 players on board has recorded a positive result. Though none of these results are from the players themselves, all 47 players are currently undergoing a necessary 14-days quarantine. With the Australian Open set to begin on the 8th of February, top players from around the world have arrived at Melbourne so as to comply with the 14 days quarantine period, it is unfortunate that the British number two, Heather Watson has tested positive. "One person on the flight I was on from Abu Dhabi tested positive. So now everyone else who was on that flight has a 14-day quarantine where we are NOT allowed out of our rooms. "The same happened on one of the chartered flights from Los Angeles. 2 flights… so far." she tweeted this morning Craig Tiley, Australian Open tournament director addresses the issue, saying, "We are communicating with everyone on this flight, and particularly the playing group whose conditions have now changed, to ensure their needs are being catered to as much as possible, and that they are fully apprised of the situation. "Our thoughts are with the two people who tested positive on the flight and we wish them well for their recovery." Andy Murray, a two-time Wimbledon Champion has also tested positive. In his case, Tiley had said, "Andy Murray has advised that he has tested positive to COVID-19 and is isolating at home in the UK. "Unfortunately this means he will be unable to join the official AO charter flights arriving in Australia in the coming days to go through the quarantine period with the other players. "The AO fans love Andy, and we know how much he loves competing here in Melbourne and how hard he'd worked for this opportunity." Preparations have already been in motion for months to make the event a reality, will it be postponed? The Recommended Content Widget will appear here on the published site.
