When do people decide on crime as an answer or solution to life's problems? Are all accused criminal actions criminal by nature or did economic desperation , poor enviroment and lack of opportunity lead them down this path? You can debate the criminal mindset and I will say most violent crime is not a matter of circumstance. However non violent crime such as drug possesion and theft and fraud is most certainly a product of our societies own shortcomings. When someone grows up in extreme poverty. Their choices are be really good at sports, join the military and hope it acts as a stepping stone or start selling dope because college is never an option when you are used to eating from the garbage. Skilled trades may be helpful to some but most pay poorly as an apprentice which doesn't do much good if your family desperately needs money and there is no guarantee of a job even after apprecticeship. When we expect a bachelor's degree and 5 years experience for an entry level job with a preference for a masters degree we may as well tell the bottom 20 or 30 percent to turn to a life of crime because we sure as hell don't care if they rot or starve as long as we squeeze the maximum production from our workforce for the least amount of money. This is why our middle class is dying, crime is rising and our infrastructure is crumbling. We have mortgaged our nations future to squeeze a little extra from the bottom line. It is completely disgusting.
